Hot Drink Recipe: Spiced Moroccan Mint Tea

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons loose green tea or 2 green tea bags
  • A handful of fresh mint leaves (preferably spearmint)
  • 2–3 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
  • A small piece of cinnamon stick or a pinch of ground cinnamon (optional)
  • A few whole cloves (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Boil Water:

    • Bring 1 liter of water to a boil in a kettle or pot.
  2. Prepare the Tea:

    • Place the green tea in a teapot.
    • Add a small amount of boiling water, swirl to rinse the tea, then discard this water.
  3. Add Mint and Spices:

    • Add fresh mint leaves, cinnamon stick, and cloves to the teapot.
    • Pour the remaining boiling water into the teapot.
  4. Sweeten the Tea:

    • Stir in sugar to taste, or serve with sugar on the side for individual sweetness preferences.
  5. Brew:

    • Cover and let the tea steep for 3–5 minutes.
  6. Serve:

    • Pour the tea into small glasses, holding the teapot high to create a frothy layer on top (optional for tradition).
